Students build the skills of collaboration, communication, perseverance, focus, and creativity while gaining presentation skills and confidence through multiple performance and showcase opportunities.
All students, kindergarten through 5th grade receive 10 weeks of dance classes blending creative movement and choreography to teach the elements of dance. Each class learns a full routine to perform at a Dance Showcase at the end of the rotation.
In every classroom at View Ridge, students are given the opportunity to explore different forms of visual arts to express themselves. Students learn the elements of art and apply them through various mediums while studying famous artists throughout history. At the end of the year, all classes pick art to put on display during our Arts and Literacy night.
In Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, drama instruction is embedded into music class through the development and performance of grade level musicals. Students work together with our music teacher to learn how to tell a story through song, movement, and acting while building their confidence and presentation skills in front of an audience.
In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, these skills are extended through a 10 week drama course with a contracted director. Students learn a full scale musical complete with auditions, choreography, blocking, set and costume design, and character development. These musicals are performed at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center where the students are able to experience a complete stage tech experience with light and sound design.
3rd - 5th grade students who want an even more in-depth drama experience can join our after school Disney program. Starting in October, students stay after school two days a week to put together a Disney musical to be performed in April. These students learn more complex choreography, blocking, and vocal skills. Throughout this process, these students truly learn what it is to be a theater community and how to work together to put on something big.
Our younger students have the opportunity to join our K-2 drama program starting in January. This program runs once a week after school, ending in a mini-musical performance opening our second showing of our Disney musical in April. Through this process, students are exposed to choreography, blocking, and acting skills that creates a great bridge into our 3rd-5th grade program.
