Parking Lot Safety

Please remember:
  • Drive slowly in our parking lot. We have a lot of students, staff and parents walking around the lot before and after school.
  • Do not drive in the bus lane as it is for buses only.
  • Parents keep your students with you at all times during arrival and dismissal. We have had a lot of students running around without an adult.
  • Please stop at all crosswalks and stop signs. Follow our crossing guards direction at all crosswalks. We have had cars driving too close to our staff/students at crosswalks.
It is our highest priority to make sure our kids are safe.

Volunteering in Our School

We are excited to have you volunteer! Please fill out and submit the application as soon as possible. Once received and completed by the district, you will receive an email confirming your application. Should you have any questions please feel free to call or email Keely Johnson at keely. johnson@bremertonschools.org.

When to stay home from school

Guidelines when deciding to keep your child home. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep him/her home, or make appropriate childcare arrangements:

  • APPEARANCE, BEHAVIOR - Unusually tired, pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused or irritable. This is sufficient reason to exclude a child from school.
  • EYES - Thick mucus or pus draining from the eye or pink eye (conjunctivitis).
  • FEVER - Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Student may safely return to school after being medication and fever free for 24 hours.
  • GREENISH NOSE DISCHARGE, AND/OR CHRONIC COUGH - should be seen by a health care provider. These conditions may be contagious and require treatment. (Cough/Congestion - persistent cough and/or nasal congestion or drainage that interferes with the ability to learn)
  • SORE THROAT - Especially with fever or swollen glands in the neck.
  • DIARRHEA - Three or more watery stools in a 24-hour period, especially if the child acts or looks ill.
  • VOMITING - Vomiting two or more times within the past 24 hours.
  • RASH - Body rash, especially with fever or itching. Diaper rashes, heat rashes and allergic reactions are not contagious.
  • EAR INFECTIONS WITHOUT FEVER - Do not need to be excluded, but the child needs to get medical treatment and follow-up. Untreated ear infections can cause permanent hearing loss.
  • SCABIES - Children with scabies can be admitted 24 hours after treatment.
  • Student may be very ill but not present with a fever or obvious symptoms; in these cases the medical authority in the building (school nurse) will make the decision of whether or not a student needs to be sent home.
Bringing a child to school with any of the above symptoms puts other children and staff at risk of getting sick. If all parents keep their sick children at home, we will have stronger, healthier, and happier students. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, in the long run this means fewer lost work days and less illness for parents and children.

Also, we are focusing on finding the main idea, comparing two texts, and greek/latin roots. Lastly, in reading we are learning about poetry and figurative language.  Please try to have your child read for 15  minutes at home daily. They may bring up to two books from our classroom library home as well and recommend new books. Hope all is well!

In Math, we are coming to the end of Module 3 and are focusing on division. Some students are starting to look into fractions. We are continuing to find strategies to solve a variety of word  problems. As we progress through the school year we are working on a monitored self paced class.
Homework is being sent home daily for those who want it to practice skills from class and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
Please make sure your child wears appropriate clothing.

PE with Mr. Kain

Hello Otter Parents,

Instructional focus has been striking skills with racquets/paddles and hands. If you have any equipment at home (pickleball, badminton, volleyball, tennis, etc.), you can continue the learning/practice after school or on weekends. If not, try to spend some time walking or playing at a playground as a family after a meal. Parents are the leaders of the family. Lead your families in an active lifestyle - have a dance party to a different song each night, challenge your kids to a plank or squat competition, or play Simon Says.

Health Tip: eat a mix of fruits and veggies to support your gut health. Variety is more important than quantity. There's no need to be perfect - aim for small steps and discuss your decisions with your kids to build healthy habits from a young age.

Happy Spring,
Andrew Kain
