Dear VREAA Families,

It was so wonderful to begin the 2026–2027 school year with all of you! Our students have been amazing, and it has been a pleasure getting to know them during this first week of school. A special welcome to our new Kindergarten families! Yesterday was their first official day of school, and they brought plenty of smiles, energy, and excitement to View Ridge! We are so happy to have them join our school family! 

Our teachers and staff are teaching and reinforcing our SPARK learning expectations:

When students demonstrate these expectations at school, we recognize them with Ollie SPARK Slips! This is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate positive choices, recognize student achievements, and build a supportive school community.

This month’s family bulletin includes our grade-level instructional goals, aligned with our district’s essential standards. Each month, we will share these updates so you have an understanding of what your child is learning and working toward in the classroom.

Next week, we will begin Fall i-Ready testing for students in grades K–5. Below is the testing schedule for the next two weeks.

Fall i-Ready testing serves as a baseline assessment and provides teachers with valuable information about what students know and are ready to learn. Teachers will use these results to help guide instruction throughout the year and will discuss assessment results with families during November parent-teacher conferences, or sooner if needed.

As parents and caregivers, one of the most important ways you can support your child's success is by ensuring they attend school every day and arrive on time. Year-round attendance is vitally important for all students. For our primary students especially, mornings are an important part of the school day. Literacy instruction takes place during the morning block, so being at school on time every day helps ensure that students don't miss valuable learning opportunities.

In English Language Arts, we are diving into narrative text and looking at story structures. In math, we are starting our unit on place value and reviewing multiplication facts. iReady assessments will start next week, and we are looking forward to starting our Walk to Math program next week, as well. Finally, dance class starts on September 8th.

We are working hard on learning the routines and procedures of 5th grade as we get to know our classroom and grade level families.  We are starting to work on our musical, "Star Power" that will be performed December 12th at 6:00 at Bremerton High School.

In math we are reviewing and expanding our skills in multiplication and division while we review addition, subtraction, and place value.  

In ELA we are focusing on literary elements as we explore our musical script and apply our skills to novels in class.  We are also working on narrative writing with rich details and expressive language.

In Science, we are studying different Earth Science concepts that connect to our musical including the Rock Cycle, Space Science, and Gravity.

K-5 Health Focus: Healthy Habits & Wellness

We will identify everyday habits that help us take care of our physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Please start or continue the conversation at home. 

K-5 PE Focus: Team Building & Recess Games

Students will practice challenges in team settings and learn fun games to play at recess with their peers. Please help your student(s) wear active/athletic shoes on PE days! Crocs are comfy and ballet shoes are cute, but they don’t support active play.
